Entry #3 Vice Article

 For this blog entry, I decided to write on a Vice article from 2017 explaining how the fashion industry is negatively affecting the environment. This article briefly discusses the dark side of the fashion industry and how its pollution is negatively affecting the environment. I believe that this report is slanted because it discusses matters such as climate change which is usually a left leaning perspective. It also pushes the narrative to be more green and to get people to care about over consumption.

    This Article constantly uses logos and pathos throughout this report to try and stress the point that what they are saying is important. The first sentence of this report states, "A sobering new report has revealed the true scale of fashion's impact on the environment". It uses buzz words such as sobering and true scale to guilt trip the reader into reading more about this report. Throughout this paper, the author dramatizes their word choice to better communicate their position on this matter. This article also includes statistics such as "half a million tonnes of plastic microfibers from clothing making their way into the ocean each year." They use numbered statistics to give the reader a better scale of how much the fashion industry is producing yearly.

    In this report, the author clearly caters to a more environmentally friendly audience. It uses statements that lean into a more leftist narrative. The author is writing about this to spread awareness about all the pollution the fashion industry produces yearly. It gives clear examples of how the fashion industry in negatively affecting the environment. The author expects the reader to have some sort of idea about the climate and provides little context behind their statements. The topic of the fashion industry is being showcased in a negative light to encourage the reader to not over consume.

    Even though this report has a clear bias towards being eco-friendly, I think that this article still provides sound evidence and reasoning. I believe it is the readers job to be attentive to what they read and seek out opposing perspectives to not be easily influenced by slanted reports.

Entry #2 What's in My Bag

     As a girl, I have realized how important it is for me to have a staple bag. I am honestly one of those people that keeps everything in my bag. I love being that friend that has everything ever in their bag just in case someone needs it. Over the years I have accumulated the necessities for my bag that I absolutely cannot live without.

    To start, you'll need to find the perfect bag. mine is a medium sized Coach bag. I was able to find a similar Coach bag to the one I have with the same features and measurements. A medium sized bag works well for most people because you are able to fit a lot in it and not have to worry about it getting too heavy. I also decorated the outside of my bag with an "A" charm I got in Hawaii

    The next couple of items are most people's basic essentials. First is my iPhone. I cannot go anywhere without my iPhone. The iPhone I have is a 128GB Midnight iPhone 13. According to Techspot, the iPhone 13 offered better battery life and improved camera quality compared to the previous iPhones. Needless to say, it is definitely my number one most important item on this list for sure. Next item is my wallet/keys. My wallet is attached to my keys, so it is like a 2 in 1. Although I have a lot of charms on my keys, the most important parts are my car keys, house key, and wallet.

    These next items are things I think are important for me to have. To start, I have my makeup bag. I love doing my makeup in my car so it's important for me to keep it ready for on the go use. I also always have my digital camera on me at all times. Although my iPhone can take pictures, it just doesn't have the same vibe as my digital camera. The camera I use is a Nikon Coolpix s210 and I was able to find a bunch on eBay. According to the reviewer theoneandonlymrs.scotch, this camera is really good at capturing pictures of ghosts. I never knew that about this camera, so I guess that's some good information to know. Some other things I keep in my bag is my hand lotion and perfume roller. Not very interesting but I hate having dry hands and I also hate smelling bad, so I got to have it. 🤷

    To wrap this up, these are just a few items I like to keep in my bag at all times. if I am being completely honest, I didn't include everything because I would have a stack of old receipts and handfuls of gum wrappers. But anyways, if you want to be a girl that is prepared for anything life throws at you, make sure to have a purse like mine.

Entry #1 Making Clothes

    Hello everyone, my name is Abbie and one of my favorite things to do is to make clothes. When I was in my freshman year of high school, I was gifted my first sewing machine. It was a beginner sewing machine and only had a couple of basic settings. It took me a while for me to understand how it works and get good at the techniques. The process of making clothes is a lot lengthier than I had originally expected. But over the years, I have gotten more experienced at the process, and I would like to share that with you.

    To start, you will start with finding inspiration to get an idea of what you want to make. After that you will want to break down the parts and get measurements of what you want to make. As an example, I will be showing you a basic t-shirt. There will be 4 key components for a basic t-shirt: front, back, and 2 sleeves. Next, you would want to find the fabric you would want to use. For t-shirts it is always best to use a cotton polyester blend. After that, you would lay the fabric flat and either use a premade pattern or you can make your own pattern. you would use the pattern to help guide you when cutting out the pattern. After you cut out the pieces you need, you will use sewing pins to help hold your garment in place so it will be easier to sew. after you have it pinned, you can sew along where you placed your pins making sure to remove them before they hit the needle. The actual sewing part is easy but it's the step you need to take before that make it a little complex. After all of those steps you will have successfully made a basic t-shirt.

    Although this process might not sound fun for most, I really do enjoy it. By learning the process of how to make basic clothing items, it has made me have a greater appreciation for the basics of sewing. By getting more experience in sewing I am able to make more intricate pieces.

 Style & Sports

    Vouge is a well known fashion website that post all things fashion related. talkSPORT on the other hand, posts all things related to sports. In this entry, i will be dissecting the unlikely pair and how they compare and contrast. 

The World of Vogue:

    In my personal opinion, Vogue is more eye catching in the sense of topics. I enjoy fashion history and that is the majority of what is posted on it. Although i find the topics eye catching, i doubt that others will find it interesting. I dislike that the website is very basic looking and doesn’t have a lot of color involved.

    Although this blog is basic looking, the format of this is still professional. The specific article that i am referencing includes a description of the topic and pictures that correlate with the context given. This blog explains the collection in a couple of paragraphs and then the second half of the blog is full of pictures. I enjoy this style although I wish there was some dialogue for some of the pictures.

    The author's purpose of this blog is to report on the collection that was released. They use descriptive language to explain the clothing. They also include pictures of the collection they are showcasing. 

Deep Dive Into talkSPORT:

    Although sports is not an interesting topic for me, I think that this blog did a good job organizing it and I like the colors they used. One thing I dislike about this blog is that I don't enjoy the topics that are posted on it. I am not a big sports fan so this blog doesn’t appeal to me.

    In the article I chose, he format of this article is professional and it includes quotes from the people that are involved in the post. This blog contains both pictures and dialogue throughout the article. I like that this article provides context for the pictures.

    The author's purpose of this article is to explain the controversy that it is talking about. When the author links something, it relates it back to another blog from talkSPORT. The images are also showing the people who are involved in the article.
